چکیده

Some issues on direct-projected augmented reality (DirectAR) are addressed: the projection may be geometrically distorted due to the non-planar surface (geometric distortion); the projection cannot be seen to user as intended because the position of the projector is not the same as that of the user’s viewpoint (viewpoint-ignorant projection); the projection may be modulated by surface color (radiometric distortion); the projected area may not have uniform brightness when the projection is obliquely headed for the surface (uneven projection). We propose an integrated framework for handling all the problems. Experimental results demonstrate that the problems unavoidable in surfaceindependent DirectAR can be successfully resolved.

Text legibility for projected Augmented Reality on industrial workbenches

Augmented Reality is a promising technology for the product lifecycle development, but it is still not established in industrial facilities. The most relevant issues to be addressed relate to the ergonomics: avoid the discomfort of Head-Worn Displays, allow the operators to have free hands and improve data visualization. In this work we study the possibility to use projection-based Augmented Re...

Content Adaptive Embedding of Complementary Patterns for Nonintrusive Direct-Projected Augmented Reality

In direct-projected augmented reality, the visual patterns for compensation may distract users despite users would not be interested in the compensation process. The distraction becomes more serious for dynamic projection surface in which compensation and display should be done simultaneously. Recently, a complementary pattern-based method of efficiently hiding the compensation process from use...

Collaborative Visualization of an Archaeological Excavation

We are developing a collaborative system for offsite visualization of an archaeological dig site through both virtual and augmented reality. Multiple users, wearing tracked, head-worn, see-through displays, can interact with the environment using tracked, instrumented gloves, a multi-user, multi-touch, projected table surface, large wall displays and tracked hand-held displays. We take advantag...

Supporting Freeform Modelling in Spatial Augmented Reality Environments with a New Deformable Material

This paper describes how a new free-form modelling material, Quimo (Quick Mock-up), can be used by industrial designers in spatial augmented reality environments. Quimo is a white malleable material that can be sculpted and deformed with bare hands into an approximate model. The material is white in colour, retains its shape once sculpted, and allows for later modification. Projecting imagery o...

Spatial Augmented Reality User Interface Techniques for Room Size Modelling Tasks

This paper present results of our investigations into using spatial augmented reality to improve kitchen design and other interior architecture tasks. We have developed user interface techniques for room sized modelling tasks, including cabinet layout, viewing and modifying preset designs, and modifying materials and surface finishes. These techniques are based on Physical-Virtual Tools, which ...
